Walter Heeb

Walter is a retired brewer with 32 years’ experience working at Coors (Coors Brewing Co., Miller Coors and now Molson Coors) Shenandoah Brewery, Va. and 30 active years in MBAA. Walter began his career in 1988 at Coors as a microbiology lab technician, and from there went on to hold 8 different roles across the organisation in Quality, Operations and Technical Services. He was Quality Director at Shenandoah, responsible for the quality of 7 million barrels of small pack and 3 million barrels of large pack volume per year. He played a key role as the Shenandoah Brewery operations representative on the 2004 build-out of the brewing, fermenting and ageing expansion at the Shenandoah brewery in Virginia, USA, the largest brewery construction project in the USA in over 20 years. Walter has extensive experience in brewing, packaging, Utilities, Waste Water treatment and technical services. Walter supported the implementation of world-class manufacturing practices in brewing and had responsibility for the quality management system. He holds an IBD General Certificate in Brewing, achieved in 1999, and MSc Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland (2015). Based in Staunton, Virginia, Walter can now be found tutoring and creating content for the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (London, England) online TGL program. He also volunteers his time to local non-profit agricultural and conservation organisations with a particular interest in water quality. He resides on a small farm in the Shenandoah Valley where he enjoys many outdoor activities.
