Karl Vanevenhoven joined the Yakima Chief Hops team in 1998 as the lead engineer to design and build their Supercritical CO2 Extraction Facility. He is a graduate of Purdue University where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. Karl has a passion for innovation related to all things hops and beer. Inventor of patent pending Cryo Hops®, avid homebrewer for 20+ years, President of the Fresh Hop Group (sponsoring the Yakima Fresh Hop Ale Festival raising $100,000+ annually for Yakima Valley arts and science non-profits) and co-Founder of Varietal Brewing Company in Sunnyside, WA. As the Chief Operations Officer of YCH, Karl and his family are currently residing in Belgium where he’s building a new distribution and packaging facility for cold storage and distribution of Yakima Chief Hops throughout Europe.
