Julie Broaddus

Special guest

Julie is a a fourth generation California native who moved to Armonk, New York with her family as a youth. She attended Duke University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Psychology. She first realized she liked running things while serving as President of the NC Beta chapter of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity of Women.

Julie moved to Washington, DC after graduation and within five years had opened a real estate brokerage firm in Virginia with her husband, Ike. Together they grew the company to be the largest multi-office Century 21 franchise in the country, enjoying the flexibility to spend time raising their three children.

Selling the firm in 2001, Julie devoted her time to her local community working to impact land use, historic preservation, and the environment in rural Fauquier County, Virginia. In 2012 both Julie and Ike were ready to start a new venture, hoping this time to also build community with a sense of place and set an example of environmental stewardship. With these goals in mind they opened Old Bust Head Brewing Company in 2014.

With the diagnosis of cancer and loss of their daughter, Finley, in 2014 at the age of 18, Ike and Julie’s commitment to the environment has become a personal mission. Since 2021 Julie has taken over sole responsibility for all brewery operations in addition to managing Finley’s "Green Leap Forward Fund" which Finley founded to carry on her exuberant passion for healing the planet.
