Joy Waite-Cusic is the Professor of Food Safety and Quality Systems in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University where she runs an integrated research, teaching, and outreach program to support food safety across the supply chain. She was raised on the Oregon Coast (Florence) with family ties to the dairy and timber industries. Joy earned her B.S. and M.S. from OSU and her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. After her Ph.D., she spent two years working for the Food and Drug Administration as a Commissioner's Fellow in the Office of Regulatory Affairs in Seattle and then a short period of time at a private lab before returning to OSU in 2012. Joy is considered a national subject matter expert for food safety, in recognition of her outreach efforts and fee-for-service program to assist the food industry.
