
Jasper Akerboom

Jasper Akerboom received his MSc in Molecular Science and PhD in Microbiology and Food Technology both from Wageningen University, The Netherlands. In 2007 he moved from The Netherlands to Virginia to work at Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In 2013 he left academia and he was hired as Quality Manager at Lost Rhino Brewing Co. There he started and managed the QA/QC lab and the barrel-aged beer program. He worked himself up to production manager overseeing all operations. He left Lost Rhino and started Jasper Yeast with Travis Tedrow. During his brewing career he has won World Beer Cup and GABF awards and has presented at numerous regional, national and international meetings on brewing science. He is very active in the brewing community and is the current president for the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the Master Brewers Association of Americas.
